A ceramic car coating adds a durable layer that boosts gloss and resists contaminants, scratches, and UV damage.

What is a Ceramic Coating?

To gain a better understanding of ceramic coatings, it's helpful to first take a closer look at the most common paint-protection products available in the market today.

Wax, which is an organic substance, comes in various forms, ranging from the traditional paste to quick-and-easy sprays that cater to busy lifestyles. For decades, the term "waxing" a car has been synonymous with ensuring it maintains a shiny and new appearance. Unfortunately, wax lacks durability, which means it must be reapplied several times throughout the year to replenish its protective qualities.

Sealants, on the other hand, are synthetic formulations specifically designed to last for several months, making them a more convenient option. Although they are generally easy to apply and offer some level of protection, they typically do not provide the same deep, lustrous shine that a high-quality wax can deliver.

Despite this, both wax and sealants fall short compared to the impressive performance of a ceramic coating. This silica-based liquid polymer is meticulously applied by hand and hardens to form a robust protective layer that can be remarkably effective for several years when properly maintained and cared for.

The Benefits of a Ceramic Coating

Many coating companies make bold claims about the effectiveness and durability of their products. While there is certainly some truth to these claims, I prefer not to exaggerate what they can actually achieve in real-world applications. It is important to present an honest perspective about the capabilities of these coatings..

So here are some benefits you actually get with a coating:

1. Produces a durable layer of protection that lasts 3 to 6 years
2. You only need to apply it once (and not every 3 months like other forms of protection)
3. Creates a deep level of gloss that’s incomparable to other forms of protection like wax or sealant
4. Provides unmatched hydrophobic properties that keeps your car cleaner and makes it easier to wash
5. It can be installed on paint, glass, wheels, vinyl film, and paint protection film

Before the coating is installed, your vehicle must first be properly prepped and corrected with one of our paint correction services. If you apply the coating without the proper prep work, you’re not able to get all the benefits from the coating.

That’s the difference of a professional ceramic coating installer. Additionally, if it’s not properly installed, you won’t get the actual benefits and you’ll see a ton of smudges across your vehicle.

This is what we consider “high spots”. You’ll see this when the coating was not properly applied and it was left to dry for too long without wiping off.

As a general rule of thumb, the more durable the coating, for instance, a 1 year versus a 9 year coating, the harder it is to install. You have to understand the weather variables as that can play a major factor in the installation process.

Different coatings react different to when it’s humid, cold, or hot.

Ceramic Coating FAQs

Do you have a shop?
No, we’re a fully-contained mobile detailing unit. We can perform our ceramic coating installation at your home. We only ask that there be an area with ample amount of room to work in. We service the San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank, Northridge, Hollywood, Malibu, North Hills, and many more

Is ceramic coating the best type of protection for my paint?
Ceramic coatings are a great option for the level of protection and shine it provides, but if you want ultimate form of protection, that would have to be paint protection film. PPF will add an 8mil layer of protection that can withstand debris far better than any ceramic coating on the market.

Can I wash my car after the coating is installed?
Once the coating is applied, the vehicle should not get wet for the first 48 hours so it can fully cure. After that, we advise our customers to not wash their vehicle for the first two weeks. The first wash after we apply the ceramic coating is free to you so we can check how the coating is holding up.

Can the ceramic coating replace my clear coat?
If your paint is chipping and fading due to clear coat failure, the only option to fix that is a repaint. A ceramic coating will not be able to help.

Can I just get the coating installed without the prep work or paint correction?
We do not apply coatings to vehicles that have not gone through the proper prep and correction as you will not reap the benefits of a coating without it.
