The Ultimate Headlight Restoration Service In San Fernando Valley & Greater Los Angeles County Area

Restore Your Headlights, Get Better Visibility, and Make Your Car Look Newer

Do your headlights have a foggy and hazy appearance to them? Perhaps you’ve observed that your visibility while driving at night or during those rainy days is significantly reduced. There’s no need to worry; you don’t have to go through the expense of replacing your headlights, nor do you have to open up your lens (a common misconception is that the haziness originates from the inside of the lens. In most cases, that’s simply not true).

Michelangelo’s Headlight Restoration Process

We don’t use a generic headlight repair kit that you find at your local auto parts store. We go through a full 8-step sanding, compounding, polishing, and protection process to offer the best results.

  1. Start sanding headlight with 800 grit

The first round of sanding is where the oxidization is removed. You'll see a lot of slurry come off.

  2. Sand headlight with 1,000 grit

As we move up the process, we remove less oxidization. The focus now is to refine the sanding marks.

  3. Sand headlight with 1,500 grit

You can start to see a noticeable difference in the clarity of the headlights.

  4. Sand headlights with 2,500 grit

  5. Sand headlights with 3,000 grit

This is the final sanding step. The headlight is looking much clearer

  6. Compound the headlights

Using a cutting disc, compound, and machine polisher, we'll remove the sanding marks.

  7. Polish the headlights

Finally, we'll refine the cutting step to bring out maximum clarity with a light polish and polishing pad.

  8. Protect the headlights

For protection, we'll apply a 1-year ceramic coating. This will provide durable protection.

By carefully sanding your headlights, we’re effectively removing the old layer of clear coat that has unfortunately failed and oxidized over time (which is what ultimately leads to that undesirable yellow-foggy appearance). After this initial step, we’ll move on to compounding and polishing the headlights to restore them to a condition that closely resembles new. Finally, to ensure long-lasting protection and maintain their clarity, we’ll apply a high-quality 1-year ceramic coating.

Headlight Restoration FAQ

Do you come to me?

Yes we do, we’re a fully-contained mobile detailing unit. We can perform our headlight restoration service at your home. We only ask that there be an area with ample amount of room to work in. We service the San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank, Northridge, Hollywood, Malibu, North Hills, and many more.

How long does this service take?

It depends on the size and condition, but it typically takes 45 to 90 minutes to complete. If the condition is severe, it’ll take longer.

Can you restore any headlights?

Like many things, once the headlights get to a certain point, there is only so much we can do to restore them to a like-new condition. Your headlights can look better after we’re done, but there can also be permanent damage.

Why do my lens get ugly?

Your headlights, just like your paint, have a clear coat on them. As the suns beats on it week after week, the clear coat starts to deteriorate. Eventually what was the clear coat turns into an ugly yellow layer gunk.

If you park your car directly in the sun for most of the day, that’s only going to add to the damage. Because of the material of the headlights, the clear coat on them don’t last nearly as much as the clear coat on the paint.

How do I keep my headlights looking good?

It can be a bit tricky. Typical waxes and sealants will only protect your car for so long. If you park your car in the shade most of the time, then they’ll simply last longer than if you park outside in the sun most of the time.

You can apply a sealant or wax to your headlights every 3 to 5 weeks. This can take less than 15 minutes to do.
